Yahoo Stores Need Blog Love To!
One of the best ways to start generating repeat business and getting more traffic to your Yahoo Store is by simply adding a blog. I don't know who created the first blog, I don't know who started calling it the "blogosphere" and I don't know all the plugins, gadgets, widgets or types of blogs and I don't care. The only thing I do know is that its simple, its easy and it works!
Look, my focus is and will always be selling products online. A real tangible item that people can see and purchase and enjoy. I also know that with most retail stores online you pretty much only see a bunch of products and an about us and contact page. Thats really the jist of any Yahoo Store. Adding a blog to your site makes it really easy to announce new store features or new products or just some buzz.
Blogging is easy these days. With the introduction of Moveable Type, WordPress, Blogger and who knows how many more, blogging has become mainstream and if you are not taking advantage of this technology, you are hurting yourself and your business. To keep things as simple as possible, I personally use Blogger. I realize that Yahoo Stores now offer the quick and easy push button install of both Moveable Type and WordPress but I gotta tell ya, its worth the few extra little kinks you gotta do to get Blogger installed and redirected to your domain.
The end goal, no matter which route you take is to start a blog and start writing. When doing so, push a few links back into your main site and add valuable information. Don't blog about nothing and don't feel like you have to post something every day. Its better to post once a month with good quality content or information than to post jibber or copying someone elses work. And it doesn't have to be a novel! So many times I hear people say that they don't want to blog because they think they have to write a long drawn out post and that is just not true. If your information is insightful and actually helps someone, then its good content.
Lastly, blogging is a traffic generator. If you post good information on a regular basis, you will slowly get a following. These folks enjoy what you say and who you are and what you are offering them. This traffic is good for your bottom line. They frequently are visiting your site and often times buy more product! They also tend to be cheerleaders for you telling their friends and family which in turn draws more traffic and the best kind of reader of your blog is one that also has a blog or site and they link back to your site or post your article on their own blog which draws more traffic.
Regardless of your market or technical skill level, make it a point to start a blog and stick with it. You would be surprised at the results.
